A beautiful 221-year-old antique French book, Les Géorgiques de Virgile (The Georgics of Virgil), published in Paris in 1805.
Originally written more than 2,000 years ago by the celebrated Roman poet Virgil, this timeless literary work explores agriculture, nature, rural life, and beekeeping through poetic verse.
This remarkable edition features the original Latin text alongside a French verse translation by A. Cournand, with additional notes on agriculture, astronomy, geography, history, and mythology.
The book features a lovely period-style quarter-leather binding with decorative gilt stars along the spine, a red title label, and aged green paper-covered boards. Beautiful patina and centuries of character make this a wonderful addition to a collected library or antique book display.
Sourced in France. Antique condition with age-related wear to the binding, cover, and spine, along with foxing and discoloration throughout. Pages remain intact and readable.
